Irish Sport Horse Magazine March 2021

They say a picture paints a thousand words, with that said we caught up with the Man Behind the Lens, Laurence Dunne from Jumpinaction.net. Laurence’s fabulous work graced our cover in February 2021 and Now again in March. We chat with Laurence about what to look for in a good action shot, and what you need to do to get those spectacular jumping shots, that can make you look like a true professional.

In our training section we cover the basics of Lovely Lateral Work for you and your horse, starting with Leg Yield and Shoulder In. Our own Irish Para Rider Angela Lyons, shared some lovely Pictures for this article. Also in this section our journalist and Natural Horse Trainer Jordan Bastian, covers 5 Steps to Dealing with a Spooky Horse, to get a positive result. Jordan also shares another very useful piece on the various Halters/Headcollars on the Market, and the different uses they cover when training or caring for your horse.

For Horse Care this time, I cover a Basic Massage Routine for you to practice on your favourite equine. If you are interested in becoming a Horse Therapist, or you would just like to help your horse become more comfortable and flexible, this routine will allow you to develop your feel with hugely beneficial results when it comes to treating tension or imbalance in your horse’s body.

In our Breed Special this month we look at the Icelandic Horse, as Jordan discovers what makes this small but mighty pony extra special.

In our Fun Fact about your horse, we take a peek into your 4 legged friend’s history, when we look at Eohippus, also known as the Dawn Horse. It’s hard to believe this tiny creature is the Ancestor of a Full Grown Horse!

As always we have our News and Results and we cover a little on the Equine Herpes Outbreak, that is halting some of the competitions in Europe. We take a quick look at this Disease, and what precautions are necessary to control it’s spread. We also share some of the wonderful results that our Irish Equestrians have been achieving over the past few weeks.

Lastly we have our Positive Note, this time we share an Inspirational Story of the Beautiful Jim Key, and his trainer Bill Key. Jim Key was said to be the Smartest Horse of All Time, Performing Tricks, Spelling Names among other words, while also giving people change from a Dollar!! It is a truly lovely story, and one that we hope you will enjoy.

Well that’s all for this time, we hope you enjoy this issue, and remember if there is something horsey that you would like us to write about, please just contact us and we will be happy to do our best to include your topic in our upcoming issues. Well that’s all for now, remember Enjoy the Journey,

To Your Equestrian Success,
